A Woman's Faith

Greetings to you our friends in the Lord, Jesus Christ.

Today our discussion is based on the Gospel of Matthew chapter 15 verses 21 to 32. In this scripture it talks about a Canaanite woman came to Jesus and cried out for mercy with faith. This script also talks about Jesus healing many people and feeding four thousand men which is part of today's discussion.

  • A Canaanite woman came to Jesus and cried out, "Son of David," " Have mercy on me sir!" "My daughter has a demon and is in critical condition."
  • Jesus did not say a word but his disciples begged Jesus to send her away and Jesus replied. "I have been sent only to the lost sheep of the people of Israel." By then the woman fell at Jesus' feet, "Help me sir!", she said.
  • Jesus answered, "It isn't right to take the children's food and throw it to the dogs." That's true sir," she answered, " but even dogs eat the leftovers that fall from their master's table."
  • Jesus answered her, "You are woman of great faith! What you want will be done for you." And at that very moment, her daughter was healed.
  • Jesus healed many people  who have been brought to his feet by the crowd. The people were amazed as they saw the dump speaking, the crippled made whole, the lame walking, the blind seeing, and they praised the God of Israel.
  • Jesus then fed them and sent them home. About four thousand men were fed during this time.
Discussion

This scripture points out the dog(s) and the children scenario and then the key words of faith and healing connected to feeding them and sending them home. There is a link between these stories or the series of events that took place.

Jesus  speaking about the children's food and the dogs scenario is that, both children and dog belong to the same master and they live under one roof which the Canaanite woman was smart enough to respond to Jesus. The purpose of Jesus being  sent to this world is to save the lost sheep people of Israel. He was sent to save the Israel the chosen people of God. God's people are those who serve him and are the children of God. The dog(s) represent those people who live with the children of God under the same master who is the Lord. They too deserve to eat under the table of the Lord as they belong to the Lord as well.

The woman had faith that Jesus alone can heal her daughter. She had this great faith and she never gave up until she got what she was after. Even though Jesus came to save the lost sheep of the people of Israel, he also came to save other people too, regardless of race and class.

People who had faith that Jesus would heal their disabilities and illnesses were healed indeed during that time.

In our daily lives, we commit sin everyday. Sin is with us always and we live with sin and it makes our soul to be disable and our soul becomes like lame; cripple; blind; dump; etc..But when we cry out to the Lord and ask for his mercy with faith then, Jesus will surely heal our soul from disabilities and he will feed our soul with his word (food for soul) and send us home in peace and joy.

So when we ask for mercy, we must have faith in Jesus and pray to God in Jesus' name then, surely he will hear our prayers and heal us or answer our prayers.

May the Lord bless this words in our hearts now and forever.

Amen
